Reporter: What is the main function of State Diamond Company?
CEO: State Diamond is providing technical and information support to people in South Africa for mineral processing. We advocate equality in human rights, regardless of race, color, gender, physical disability, and equal treatment and employment.
Reporter: Has the role of diamond traders changed since 2007?
CEO: As early as the 2008-09 financial crisis, many diamond companies did not survive, and had little to do with the sale of rough diamonds.
We have witnessed the prosperity of De Beers, and after moving to Botswana, focusing on the processing and production of rough diamonds is beneficial to the South African region. At the same time, the company transformed its investment in diamond beneficiation and the labor market.
The transformation of the company's strategy helps other companies to develop together and drive their own development. In 2013, we developed a marketing and promotion plan to work with governments and industry organizations to achieve win-win results.
Reporter: What is the focus of your marketing?
CEO: Basically, we will create marketing and promotion plans for our customers. The supply of rough diamonds is the first step we have made.
Another thing is that we bring South African diamonds to the stage of world trading, attending trade fairs and exhibitions. This year, we participated in the Hong Kong Jewellery Show in our third year. We organized a partnership with jewelers from all over the world.
Reporter: How do you measure your success?
CEO: On the surface, success is how many diamonds we sell. I think it is more important that we have built many business ties and development partnerships to give SMEs more opportunities. We have also formulated the next five-year plan.
Reporter: How many people in the diamond processing industry in South Africa?
CEO: I don't have the exact number. There are about 500 to 800 people. The government promises to expand employment and economic activities.
Reporter: How is the price of diamonds determined?
CEO: There is a regular process here. The diamond manufacturer puts the product in front of the trader and then quotes it. The government appraisal officer is on the sidelines, the price is reasonable. If the price is too high or too low, the government appraisers will intervene.
