What is the goal of the Tom Dixon Design Series? This series was born to meet people’s need for a week-long travel with only a suitcase, just like a survival kit. This inspiration comes from the designer's own global travel experience. Dixon said: "I had this idea when I was in Milan. I always had troubles there." Once, Dixon slept on the bench in the park during the furniture exhibition because he couldn't book the hotel room. . Another time in 2010, Dixon was forced to stay in Iceland for several days due to the eruption of the Eyjafjall volcano in Iceland.
With this in mind, Dixon is actually designing a product line that provides convenience for modern life. He believes: “When modern people change from working state to leisure state, there is simply not enough time to consider the corresponding clothing. Then clothes must have the ability to adapt to this phenomenon.â€
The product line entitled 'Capsules' is unisex and very practical, with emphasis on product functionality and ease of storage. For example, a quantitative storage package with a detailed description of accommodating items printed on it. This series is based on two types of travel bags and is named The hard and The soft. The suitcase can exhibit rich and varied gradation effects by unlocking the buckling straps, pulling the zippers off and uncovering the lids. Each suitcase can hold up to 7 days of luggage items, and the clothing is laid out in an orderly manner by uncovering different compartments. There are pants, shirts, jackets and three different pairs of shoes in the box. These products are all designed to fit together and are designed to be used across seasons. Taking shoes as an example, they are designed to consist of only two essential elements, namely soles and uppers. This ultimate simplicity is the key to Dixon's design.
