The second high court of the European Union ruled that Adidas’ three-striped trademark was invalid because of the lack of sufficient features.
The German clothing giant Adidas has a unique three-bar logo. Because these three bars are highly recognizable, Adidas attaches great importance to the protection of trademarks. But recently the giant has received a bad news, the EU court announced that Adidas' "three bars" logo is invalid as a trademark because of the lack of uniqueness.
In this way, the three bars of Adidas will no longer be their own logo, and other manufacturers will have nothing to do with the three bars. This has made Adidas influential. If the cottage is flooded, its logo will be "bad street" and Adidas can't do anything about it. In fact, Adidas has sued many companies that use three bars, but the EU declared the trademark invalid, which made Adidas very injured.
Adidas expressed great disappointment with this decision. However, Adi also pointed out that the ruling is only effective for the use of the three-striped trademark in a limited field, and has no effect on the broader scope of protection.
At present, Adidas has three major series, namely sports performance series (three stripes), sports traditional series originals (shamrock) and sports fashion series neo (spherical LOGO).
It is reported that in 1949, Adidas used the three stripes on their traditional products and became a brand name of Adidas in the world. In 1972, Adidas adopted the entire Adidas trademark of clover for the first time. Later, the clover appeared only on the classic series, and all other products were replaced with the new three-bar Adidas trademark to represent the brand's quality and future prospects.
